Anthropocene
(re)action: states of change
(re)action: states of change is a collaborative, cross-regional arts project that highlights the beauty of, and threats to, our coastal and marine environments. Two established Mackay artists, Glenda Hobdell (aka LaBudda) and Donna Maree Robinson, are joined by invited emerging artists, Perry Hobdell and Catherine Hodby. Together they have connected their individual reactions to place to present exciting synergies in the collaborative work. Images by previous participant, Whitsundays’ artist, Jessa Lloyd, are included in some collaborative works.
Anthropocene is an interactive, transmedia installation emerging from the collaborative project. The immersive work is inspired by the artists’ collective experience of the coral reef and coastal environs of the Mackay-Whitsundays region. The work aims to create a sense of wonder, reverence, belonging, and awe of the reef but also to raise critical environmental concerns. In addition, it is hoped that the interactive installation work will generate meaningful dialogue through audience engagement in an immersive experience where they become a crucial driver of change.
Such an engaging and impressive concept. Really enjoyed the different lights and sounds amongst the bleached reef, and the clever sensor for the invisible ink reveal.
Thank you for bringing this wonderful display to our town

An incredibly immersive installation that instantly makes you think of coral bleaching and human impact on the reef. It feels beautiful but also a little unsettling.
